What do I need to get started?
You can expect to pay around £200
for a good nappy system, although price can vary a lot depending on
which type and brand you choose.
An example basic order for a Newborn
might be made up of 8 Tots Bots nappies (£58), 4 Sandy's nappies
(£29), 4
Nappy Nation Nappies (£30), 2 Minki Nappies + 4 prefold inserts
(£27.98), 4 Rikki wraps (£31.96), 2 rolls of liners and 6 fleece
liners (£11), a bucket and mesh (£12), a box of sanitiser and a
bottle of lavender oil (£11.45), 12 washable wipes (£6), a change mat
and a wet nappy bag (£10.99). This makes a total of £228.38. Of
course you'll also get free factsheets, help finding the right
nappies and after-sales support if you buy from me rather than some
anonymous website!
This might sound a lot, so it's good
to put things into perspective. It is estimated that disposable
nappies for one baby cost around £700 - £1000. So £200 would buy you
the equivalent of only 4 - 5 months.
Remember that cloth nappies can be
used for more than one child if cared for as directed.

Points to consider
What is your budget?
How many children will be wearing nappies at the same time?
How old is your baby?
How often do you prefer to wash?
Drying nappies - do you have a tumble drier or airing cupboard
for wet days?
Who will be changing the nappies?
Will you be breastfeeding?
Does your child have eczema or allergies?
