Real Nappy Week 24-30th April 2006
Nappy fashion hit the catwalk in
10th Anniversary Real Nappy Week
Twelve fashion shows to mark the 10th
Anniversary Real Nappy Week revealed just how far real nappies have
come in the last decade. No longer just an eco and economic option,
real nappies are now a fashionable lifestyle choice. The latest in
sassy nappy style and high street chic were shown off on catwalks
around the country and abroad.
Hundreds of events were organised
throughout the UK and overseas to show parents what real nappies are
really like. Details of all activities are posted on Women’s
Environmental Network’s website, www.wen.org.uk.
With some eight million nappies thrown
away every day in the UK, real nappies are promoted to cut waste and
as a cost-saving option for families who could save around £500 by
washing nappies at home. For the ultimate convenience nappy laundry
services can do the job for you. The week was once again an
international affair with displays, fashion shows and media
activities planned in the UK, Australia, Hong Kong, Ireland, South
Africa, Mexico and New Zealand.
Real Nappy Week is co-ordinated by
Women’s Environmental Network (WEN), sponsored by WRAP (the Waste &
Resources Action Programme) through its Real Nappy Campaign and
supported by the Waste Aware Scotland campaign. To find out about
Real Nappy Week 2007 (11-18th March), visit

The following 'Nappuccinos' and other
events were organised in our area and I would invite as many of
you as possible to come along. Nappuccinos are very informal and
offer a chance for a coffee and chat with other real nappy using Mums
(Dads are very welcome too of course!!). They are great for picking
up tips and advice, and comparing different types of nappy. Venues
were chosen which are as child-friendly as possible. They have good
changing facilities and plenty of space for the wee ones.

Lochwinnoch Napuccino
The Mums I spoke to at a Nappuccino
in Lochwinnoch were surprised at how easy the washing routine is and
this
has encouraged them to try out a couple of washable nappies. They
were amazed at how much choice there is nowadays, from fleece to
organic cotton to hemp.
Fiona Carswell of Clyde Muirshiel
said "We hope events like this Nappuccino will help raise awareness
of environmental and conservation issues. Now that the Visitor
Centre has baby changing facilities in place it is great to see the
local mother and toddler group meeting at Castle Semple each
week."
